The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Argentina celebrated 140 years of uninterrupted activity in support of bilateral economic relations on Tuesday in Buenos Aires with an event that coincided with the arrival in the Argentine capital of Premier Giorgia Meloni.
The anniversary of the oldest of the 86 Italian Chambers of Commerce Abroad takes place in the context of a clear strengthening of institutional relations between the two countries and concrete prospects for expansion of investment and trade mainly in the energy sector, with two business forums held in recent months in Italy and Argentina and the recent visit to Buenos Aires of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani.
The latter point was emphasised by President Giorgio Alliata di Montereale in his welcome speech. "We are faced with a unique opportunity," said Alliata, pointing out that "Argentina has the resources the world needs such as both fossil and renewable energy, critical minerals needed for the energy transition, and food.
For the president, a further opportunity is represented by the prospect of an agreement between the European Union and Mercosur that 'would open up the possibility of integrating the value chains of these sectors'.
In his greeting, Ambassador Fabrizio Lucentini recalled the importance of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Argentina, which 'is not only the oldest of the Italian chambers abroad but is part of Sistema Italia and works closely with the embassy to strengthen bilateral relations between two sister countries like Italy and Argentina.
