Gorizia and Nova Gorica among the
"European Excellencies": the common commitment and great work
that led to the title of European Capital of Culture 2025 has
been recognized by the selection committee of the prestigious
award, this year in its first edition, linked to the "Italian
Excellencies" award, which for 13 years has been giving credit
to those who have particularly distinguished themselves in
public and private institutions, in the social field, in the
fields of entertainment and science, or who have been active in
the fight against the mafia and in strengthening security. The
handover ceremony, at the Italian headquarters of the European
Parliament in Rome, was attended by the mayor, Rodolfo Ziberna,
also representing the first citizen of Nova Gorica, Samo Turel.
"For me it was truly a great satisfaction to receive this
recognition, further proof of how important the work that has
been carried out in our territory is. Gorizia and Nova Gorica,
working side by side, have transformed a border that for a long
time was an offshoot of the Iron Curtain into an opportunity for
growth, cohesion and cooperation," the Isonzo city's first
citizen stressed. The award is dedicated to the memory of
David Sassuoli, former president of the European Council, who
died prematurely. Sponsor is AssoTutela, a public protection
association that brings together components of civil society
with a focus on fragile groups.
