Greece: Zoe Konstantopoulou elected new Parliament speaker

Human rights lawyer, anti-corruption activist

(ANSA) - ATHENS - With 235 yes votes out of 298 voters, the Greek Parliament on Friday elected Zoe Konstantopoulou, a Syriza lawmaker, as its new speaker, based on results of a national election on January 25. Konstantopoulou, born in Athens in 1976, was expected to be win the parliamentary vote. A law graduate at the University of Athens, she is the youngest ever Greek Parliament speaker and the second woman to the appointed to the role. She is an internationally-renowned human rights lawyer and an anti-corruption activist. (ANSA).
