(ANSA) Shanghai, July 25 - Champion Italian swimmer Federica
Pellegrini has returned to top form winning her second straight
400-metre world freestyle title and setting her sights on the
London Olympics in 2012.It was a strategic swim for the 22-year-old who remained behind the leaders for the first half of her race at the World Championships in Shanghai.
She was in fifth place at the 200m mark before taking control on the fifth lap and storming home.
"I'm very happy to confirm myself as world champion again," Pellegrini said after her win. "It's always very difficult to win. "I knew I had to swim like that. After the first 200 metres I finished strongly and I rediscovered feelings that I have not had for two years".
Pellegrini defends her 200m freestyle title later this week.
