The inventory of Pakistan's 13,032 glaciers will be presented at COP29 - the UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change, to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11 to 22 November. This was announced by the Prime Minister's Climate Change Coordinator, Romina Khurshid Alamha, at a press conference held on 7 November in Islamabad at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination.
This important volume was handed over to the federal authorities by the Italian Ambassador to Pakistan Marilina Armellin as a product of the collaboration between Italian and Pakistani universities that involved about 400 young people from the two countries in the framework of the Glaciers and Students project.
Data to improve environmental governance are necessary and represent the basis for the sustainable management of a fundamental resource such as water, the element at the centre of a new development cooperation project recently launched in Pakistan, "Acqua per lo Sviluppo" funded by the Italian Development Cooperation Agency, executed by UNPD and implemented by EvK2-CNR.
Armellin and Khurshid confirmed the value of the partnership between Italy and Pakistan to promote prosperity and protection of the natural heritage, especially for the benefit of young people in the framework of sustainable development goals.
