(ANSA) - Rome, June 11 - Paris-based food giant Danone
announced Wednesday it was shutting three European plants
including one in Italy that would throw 100 people out of work.
The Italian plant in Casale Cremasco, about 45 km east of
Milan, as well as a facility in Germany and one in Budapest are
on the chopping block as Danone blames declining consumer
spending across Europe as well as economic weakness.
Danone said it would be "working closely with union
representatives" ahead of the plant closures slated for the
middle of next year.
The company, best known for its yogurt, said that the cuts
should bring its dairy-products division back to profitability.
