(ANSA) Rome, March 24 - Veneto governor Luca Zaia suggested
Tuesday the region might adopt its own coinage with a separate
mint to the euros minted in Rome.
"It would be too beautiful to have a Venetian currency and a
mint," Zaia, a member of the separatist Northern League and its
Venetian branch the Liga Veneta, told Radio 24.
"The dream at the moment is to have two democratic
referendums on independence and autonomy," said Zaia.
Northern League politicians have been more strident in
separatist rhetoric as regional elections approach.
