(ANSA) - Udine, May 15 - Ernest Hemingway's grandson John followed in the footsteps of the writer Friday attending an international tuna fishing competition at the resort of Lignano in an area the author dubbed "the Florida of Italy".
John Hemingway, also a journalist, writer and lover of deep water fishing, was guest of honour at the inaugural edition of the Ranieri International Tuna Cup - First City of Lignano Sabbiad'Oro Trophy," organisers said.

Ernest Hemingway visited the Veneto region resort in 1954, spending much of his time hunting with friends in the nearby marshland.
Lignano subsequently became one of the most popular beach resorts in easy reach of Venice.
Teams taking part in the Ranieri Cup compete to catch the longest tuna with all the catches subsequently released back into the sea.
