(ANSA) - Paris, September 4 - French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel asked the EU Friday to set up 'hot spots' - migrant and refugee registration centres - that would be "fully operational by the end of the year". They said hot spots in Italy and Greece should be "accelerated".
David Cameron said the UK would take in "thousands of refugees more" from the Middle East. The UK said it would take in 4,000 Syrians.
The UNHCR urged the EU to relocate 200,000 refugees this year.
