(ANSA) - Rome, October 26 - Top Italian oncologist Umberto
Veronesi said Monday a new World Health Organisation report
saying processed meats were a cancer risk on a par with smoking
and red meats only slightly less dangerous highlighted the need
to cut meat out of diets altogether.
"My advice as someone who has always been vegetarian is to
eliminate consumption of meat altogether for ethical and
philosophical reasons," he said.
"Having said that the World Health Organisation study on
the carcinogenic nature of red and treated meat does not come as
a surprise to us at all," he added.
All such studies that help to identify possible factors of
rick for cancer are a "great step forward," Veronesi said.
