(ANSA) - Vatican City, November 24 - Pope Francis on Tuesday
named banker Gian Franco Mammì new director general of Vatican
Bank Istituto per le Opere di religione (IOR). He will be helped
by Giulio Mattietti pending the appointment of a new deputy
director. The pope spent about 20 minutes with IOR's governing
council. IOR and the rest of the Vatican's financial machinery
are currently at the centre of a leaks scandal, Vatileaks 2, for
which a trial started Tuesday. IOR, which is trying to get onto
the international white list against money laundering, has been
through a series of scandals.
