(ANSA) - Rome, April 7 - Over five million foreigners
legally resided in Italy at the end of 2014 according to a
report from national statistics agency ISTAT published Thursday.
This was up 1.9% over the previous year and represented
8.2% of the total population of around 60 million.
ISTAT said 3,929,916 non-EU citizens were legally resident
in Italy at the end of 2014, while the number of permits of stay
issued to non-EU citizens fell by almost 3% over the previous
year, ISTAT said.
The level of education of Italy's foreign population is
only slightly lower than that of Italians, the agency added.
