(ANSA) - Rome, April 29 - Cabinet on Friday named National Police Chief Alessandro Pansa to lead the Information and Security Department (DIS), which coordinates Italy's two intelligence agencies: AISI (domestic intelligence) and AISE (foreign intelligence). General Mario Parente was named new AISI chief, Rome Prefect Franco Gabrielli will replace Pansa as national police chief, General Giorgio Toschi was named Finance Police commander and Admiral Valter Girardelli is the new Navy commander.
As well, Army General Carmine Masiello was appointed as the premier's new military advisor.
"These are all figures with proven experience in the relevant sectors," Premier Matteo Renzi said. All the mandates are for two years because a general election will be held in 2018 and that government will decide whether or not to renew them, the premier said.
