(ANSAmed) - Rome, June 3 - At least 700 migrants were on board a boat that sank off Crete Friday, the International Organisation for Migration said. It said "hundreds are missing" after 340 people were rescued and four bodies were recovered.
"The boat is believed to have left Africa with at least 700 migrants on board," the IOM said. Migrant boats have been leaving North Africa in larger numbers, heading for Italy, after the recent closure of the Balkan Route.
