(ANSA) - Pompei, July 6 - Former Pink Floyd guitarist
David Gilmour was on Wednesday made a citizen of the modern town
of Pompei on the eve of his keenly awaited concert in the
ancient Roman ruins of Pompeii.
Pompei Mayor Ferdinando Uliano conferred on Gilmour the
honorary citizenship of the town, which has an important shrine
to Mary.
"Thanks to everyone," said Gilmour. "Here in Pompei I feel
safe, as if I was at home".
The guitar legend is to play two dates, Thursday and
Friday, in Pompeii 45 years after Pink Floyd filmed a famous
concert there.
Tickets cost 350 euros.
Floyd played in Pompeii's amphitheatre over four days
in October 1971.
