(ANSA) - Milan, August 17 - Anti-immigrant Northern League
leader Matteo Salvini has irked some of Italy's police unions by
donning a uniform to call for "a controlled ethnic cleansing" of
Italian cities from migrants.
Salvini responded to the criticism Wednesday by saying that
"only the leftwing unions are criticising me".
He also said that "parts of Milan are completely in the
hands of migrants".
In nearby Como, some 500 migrants have been camping our in
the railway station gardens for about a month.
Amid plans to house them in containers, the European
Commission said it was monitoring the situation.
