(ANSAmed) - Rome, November 2 - Italian Foreign Minister
Paolo Gentiloni has expressed satisfaction after representatives
of Libya's interim government of national accord and the central
bank reached an agreement to resume domestic funding in order to
meet basic urgent needs.
Under the agreement reached at a meeting in London on
Monday, the Libyan central bank will make the equivalent of
nearly seven billion euros available to Presidency Council
Chairman Faiez Serraj to deliver essential services to the
population.
The accord is "a first step forward in stabilising the
economy and realising priority programmes for the country,
including the provision of essential services and security,"
Gentiloni said in a statement.
During the meeting Libyan government and bank
representatives also defined a link mechanism between the two
institutions to make the application of economic policy measures
swifter and more effective.
To this end, the presidency council has pledged to
nominate a deputy economy and finance minister.
The representatives will meet again in Rome on November 17
to examine the technical details of the agreement.
