(ANSA) - Rome, November 22 - Marshall BioResources, an
American multinational that provides purpose-bred animals for
scientific research, is selling its Green Hill beagle-breeding
facility in Montichiari near Brescia in northern Italy, saying
that Italian law is "too restrictive" on animal testing.
The European Commission has opened an infringement procedure
against Italy for the same reason.
The European directive on animal testing prohibits member
States from imposing more restrictive laws unless they were
already in effect prior to November 2010.
Italy's harsher restrictions regarding dog, cat, and primate
breeding for animal testing were introduced in 2014.
