Prosecutor asks to shelve Salvini migrant 'kidnapping' case

(ANSA) - Catania, November 2 - A Catania prosecutor on Thursday asked to shelve a case of alleged kidnapping by Interior Minister Matteo Salvini of rescued migrants aboard the Diciotti Coast Guard ship.
    The prosecutor said the deputy premier and anti-migrant League leader had "made a purely political choice" in a 10-d ay stand-off with the EU over 150 or so Eritrean migrants.
    Therefore, the judicial system could not pronounce on it, the prosecutor argued.
    "I'm innocent. I could and had to block the immigrants," Salvini said on Facebook.
