Big rise in Italians in favour of euro

(ANSA) - Rome, November 20 - There has been a big rise in the number of Italian people in favour of the euro, according to the results of a Eurobarometer survey released on Tuesday. The study said that 57% of respondents said that the euro was good for Italy, an increase of 12 points with respect to last year. This was the biggest rise in support for the euro among the member States along with that registered in Austria. Nevertheless, 57% is still the third-lowest level of support among the 19 eurozone countries, with backing lower only in Cyprus and Lithuania. The Italians were top, however, in terms of viewing positively greater euro-area coordination of economic policy, including budgetary policies, with 79% in favour.
