(ANSA) - Rome, December 4 - Italian President Sergio Mattarella on Tuesday said media pluralism is a "fundamental value" that must be respected.
"Our Constitution isn't limited to establishing principles and values but asks the State to be an active party in attaining them", the president said in a message to mark the centennial of the Parliamentary press association.
"This is naturally also true for the freedom of opinion and expression".
"The pluralism of information is a fundamental value for each democracy, which must be defended and concretely implemented and supported", Mattarella said.
