(ANSA) - Vatican City, December 17 - Pope Francis spoke out against the death penalty on Monday, which is his 82nd birthday.
Speaking to a delegation of the International Commission against the Death Penalty, he said capital punishment was "contrary to the Gospel as it implies suppressing a life that is always sacred in the eyes of the Creator, and of which only God is the true judge and guarantor".
