(ANSA) - Rome, February 25 - Social-security and pensions
agency INPS has issued new guidelines for its own medical
commissions in which the so-called BRCA1 and BRCA2 'faulty
genes' are recognised.
Movie star Angelina Jolie had a preventative double
mastectomy and had her ovaries removed to avoid developing
breast and ovarian cancer because she has a faulty copy of the
BRCA1 gene.
INPS's decision opens the door for women who have
preventative mastectomies to have access to a series of
benefits.
