PD proposes COVID-19 solidarity contribution for earners above 80,000 euros

(ANSA) - Rome, April 10 - The ruling centre-left Democratic Party (PD) on Friday proposed a coronavirus "solidarity contribution" for those earning over 80,000 euros, which will be tax-deductible and go from several hundred euros to tens of thousands of euros for incomes above one million.
    The PD said the move was expected to bring in some 1. 3 billion euros a year in 2020 and 2021.
    The centre-right opposition and the PD's ruling partner, the centrist Italia Viva (IV) party, both came out against what they called a wealth tax.

The PD's main government ally, the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S), also said it was against the tax.
