No more marches against Green Pass Alessandro Canelli tells ANSA

(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 2 - Novara Mayor Alessandro Canelli on Tuesday appealed for no more demonstrations against the Green Pass COVID-19 health certificate to be staged in the northern city after protestors dressed up as concentration camp prisoners at a march on Sunday.
The stunt provoked widespread outrage and indignation among the Jewish community.
It is only the latest in series of incidents in which people opposed to the obligation to have the Green Pass to access places of work in Italy have compared the measure to the treatment of Jews during the Holocaust.
The Green Pass shows that a person is vaccinated for COVID-19, has recovered from it in the last six months or has tested negative in the last few days.
"It is not the council's job to authorize demonstrations," Canelli told ANSA.
"I am just making an appeal: given the climate that has come about with the last march and the sacrosanct reactions it provoked, I think it is right to reflect on whether it is opportune to have other demonstrations in the immediate future.
"But this will obviously have to be assessed by the police.
"It would be even more appropriate if the protestors themselves suspended the demonstrations in order to avoid fuelling more tension". (ANSA).
