(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 31 - Italian police on Friday found 20
illegal fireworks hidden in trolley luggage near Naples as their
annual pre-New Year's Eve crackdown continued.
The case of fireworks was found at Soccavo on the outskirts of
the southern Italian port city where New Year's celebrations are
always the noisiest in Italy, despite some COVID firework bans.
Some 220 kg of illegal fireworks were also seized at the nearby
Piazzolla di Nola.
The mayor of Naples, the city which always boasts the heaviest
toll of injuries and sometimes deaths, has banned firework
displays across the city this New Year. (ANSA).
