(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 16 - Premier Mario Draghi on Monday briefed League leader Matteo Salvini on his trip to the United States last week during which "Italy's commitment for peace through support for Ukraine, the imposition of sanctions on Russia, a renewed request for a ceasefire and the start of credible negotiations was reaffirmed," a note from the premier's office said.
After the talks, Salvini reiterated his view that sending more arms to Ukraine was no longer the right way to go forward.
"Sending economic and military aid to Ukraine was right initially and we voted for it with conviction," he said.
"But now I don't think further shipments of arms are the right solution.
"If the war goes on, in Italy too there will be a massacre of jobs".
Salvini and 5-Star Movement (M5S) leader and ex-premier Giuseppe Conte have come out against further arms shipments to Kyiv.
