(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 14 - The Italian economy is set to slow
down in a big way next year, Bank of Italy Governor Ignazio
Visco said in the fringes of the IMF annual meetings.
"There is a strong slowdown of the economy after a year that was
better than expected," Visco said.
"The months up to the summer went much better (than forecast)
despite the serious effects of the increases in energy prices.
"It's highly unlikely that things will go much better than we
think next year, which is growth that is effectively flat".
He added that Italy's massive public debt does not allow for
large-scale budget policy moves. (ANSA).
