(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 17 - Italian sprinter Zaynab Dosso said
Monday that she had been called a "dirty nigger" recently after
turning down a beggar while out celebrating moving into a new
flat with her sister and friends in Rome.
Dosso spoke about the racist incident after Italy volleyball
star Paola Egonu raised doubts about whether she would keep
playing for the national team after being questioned "how come"
she is Italian.
"They called me foreign whore, dirty nigger. They said 'go back
to your own country'," said Dosso, who has Ivorian roots but has
lived in Italy since she was a small child.
"My heart is broken. I feel violated," added the 23-year-old,
who helped Italy take bronze in the women's 4ž100 m relay at
this year's European championships
"It was a crowded place. Everyone heard and non one reacted".
