(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 4 - The Avellino-Salerno highway south of
Naples was blocked by gridlocked traffic after a 'water bomb'
cloudburst on Friday.
Hundreds of motorists were trapped for hours on the highway
after the intense downpour hit the Mercato San Severino area
near Salerno, flooding the carriageways in both directions.
A tailback measuring at least 10 kilometres formed causing huge
discomfort for those in the cars, especially for the elderly and
children.
Water threatened to submerge vehicles at Mercato San Severino.
