(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 8 - The Treasury on Tuesday approved a
capital increase of 400 million euros for ITA Airways at an
extraordinary assembly of the State-owned carrier's
shareholders.
Alfredo Altavilla quit as ITA's president and six board members
also resigned ahead of Tuesday's meeting following friction over
the process of selling the company, which replaced the
loss-making Alitalia.
Altavilla reportedly opposed a bid by US investment fund
Certares, Delta Airlines and Air France-KLM and favoured one
from German carrier Lufthansa and shipping group MSC.
In August the government of ex-premier Mario Draghi announced it
would start exclusive negotiations with the Certares-led bid,
although there is speculation Premier Giorgia Meloni's new
government could let the talks expire without entering a binding
agreement. (ANSA).
