Law and order govt's distinctive trait says Meloni

(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 9 - Law and order is the government's distinctive mark and people must get used to respecting the rules, Premier Giorgia Meloni told the caucuses of her Brothers of Italy (fdI) party Wednesday.
    "We deem the issue of legality a distinguishing mark of this government: we must return to respecting the rules and that goes for all spheres," said the premier, who has been criticised by the opposition for a tough stance against NGO migrant ships and a crackdown on illegal rave parties which roused fears it might apply to political protests.
    "The banana republic is over, a time when citizens were harried and which the Left likes so much: you can do anything, respecting laws and respecting Italians who respect the laws".
    Meloni has stressed the anti-rave norms which envisage jail terms of up to six years and police intercepts will not apply to any form of anti-government protest.
    On the ban on NGO migrant rescue ships entering Italian waters, she has said Italy is only defending its borders.
    All of the migrants whose rescuers breached the ban were eventually allowed ashore after medical tests found they could no longer remain aboard, although one ship headed towards France after Paris said it could dock in Marseille after more than three weeks at sea. (ANSA).
