(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 18 - A cancer ward in a Trapani hospital
where captured Cosa Nostra superboss Matteo Messina Denaro was
treated during the last year of his 30-year flight from Italian
justice searched by police on Tuesday morning, sources said
Wednesday.
Police searched the oncology department at the Sant'Antonio
Abate Hospital in the western Sicilian coastal city as they
sought the first cancer exam undergone by the 60-year-old boss,
who has colon cancer.
Investigators said they were evaluating the position of ward
chief Doctor Filippo Zerilli, who was off sick on Tuesday.
The position of other doctors are also being weighed as police
want to know if they were aware who was the man hiding behind
the assumed name of Andrea Bonafede, a man who helped Messina
Denaro. (ANSA).
