(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 15 - Italian freestyle wrestler Frank
Chamizo said Wednesday he had "made a mistake" but that it "had
nothing to do" with competition sport after agreeing a
three-month disqualification after failing an anti-doping test.
The Cuban-born sportsman also lost the bronze medal he won at
the Wrestling World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, in
September 2022.
"I would like to make it clear that I have never had anything to
do with doping and that I agreed with the International
Federation's decision to revoke my medal," said Chamizo in a
statement to Ansa.
"However, in the proceedings, I was keen to demonstrate that the
substance found had nothing to do with, and had had no effect
on, competitions. I know I made a mistake, which is why I agreed
to lose the medal and declared my willingness to undergo
checkups or take part in a recovery programme in order to show
my correctness," he added. (ANSA).
