(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 31 - The transport and infrastructure
ministry said Friday the government's project to build a bridge
across the Messina Strait and link Sicily and mainland Italy had
been approved by its experts and it would be a record scheme.
The go-ahead has been given for the Ponte Decree: the offices
have completed the last in-depth studies, essentially confirming
the text that was approved by the Council of Ministers on 16
March last with the "subject to agreements" formula, the
ministry announced.
"It is a historic choice, which opens the way to a world-record
infrastructure with a strong green connotation: the bridge will
allow a drastic reduction in CO2 pollution and a significant
decrease in discharges into the sea," the ministry explains.
"The economic aspect is significant: the cost of building the
Bridge and all the railway and road access works on both banks
is currently estimated at 10 billion. From 2019 to 2022, the
Citizenship Income has had an impact on state coffers of 25
billion'. (ANSA).
