(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 11 - Weapons are not the answer to
problems or new needs, said Pope Francis on Thursday.
"The selfishness of a few and the ever-narrowing interests of
some lead one to think that weapons are the answer to so many
problems or new needs, as well as to those conflicts that emerge
in the reality of the life of nations," wrote the Pope in a
message to the conference Pacem in Terris at the Pontifical
Lateran University in Rome.
"The desire for power is still, unfortunately, a criterion of
judgment and an element of activity in relations between
states," continued the pope, adding that this manifests itself
with "devastating effects on people and their loved ones".
