(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 16 - The results of an important round of
local elections on Sunday and Monday confirm the strength of the
centre-right as a governing coalition, Premier Giorgia Meloni
said on Tuesday.
"My best wishes go to all mayors elected in the first round of
local elections," Meloni said.
"The center-right confirms its strength as a governing
coalition, the value of stability and clarity before Italians,"
she added.
Centre-right coalitions won four of the 13 provincial capitals
up for grabs in the local elections on Sunday and Monday,
Imperia, Sondrio, Treviso and Latina, while two, Teramo and
Brescia, went to the centre left.
The other seven, Ancona, Brindisi, Terni, Vicenza, Massa, Pisa
and Siena, will have runoff votes in two weeks' time after none
of the candidates managed to win over 50% of the ballots cast in
the first round.
Separate local elections are scheduled in Valle d'Aosta and
Trentino Alto Adige on May 21 and in Sicily (128 municipalities)
and Sardinia (39 municipalities) on May 28-29. (ANSA).
