(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 19 - The regional authorities in flood-ravaged Emilia Romagna are "working as one" with the government in the interest of the affected populations, Governor Stefano Bonaccini said on Friday.
"I must say that with the government we are working as one because it is right and proper among institutions to do so in the interest of those who are suffering and are dramatically affected," Bonaccini, who is also President of the centre-left Democratic Party, told Sky.
"I want to say to those who are in the trenches, to those who are suffering, to those who are afraid they have lost everything: no one will be left alone," he continued.
Bonaccini said he would meet with Premier Giorgia Meloni and relevant ministers on Tuesday after the cabinet meeting that has been convened specifically on the flooding and landslide emergency.
Representatives of trades unions, the local business community and other affected categories would also attend the meeting, he added.
Fourteen people are confirmed dead in flooding and landslides triggered by torrential rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday, which have also displaced thousands and caused billions of euros of damage. (ANSA).
