Floods: Meloni thanks G7 leaders for solidarity

Biden, Kishida and Trudeau among leaders to express support

(ANSA) - HIROSHIMA, MAY 20 - Premier Giorgia Meloni on Saturday thanked the the G7 leaders and the other heads of State and government that have expressed support for Italy after this week's deadly floods in Emilia Romagna.
    "I would like to thank the G7 leaders and partners from several nations who are expressing words of solidarity with Italy and the people affected by the flooding in these hours," Meloni said via Twitter.
    "Your closeness is a tangible sign of our cohesion in difficult times. Thank you".
    Meloni showed the other leaders at the G7 summit the images of the floods that have claimed 14 lives on her mobile telephone.
    United States President Joe Biden approached Meloni, shook her hand and embraced her, expressing words of support, solidarity and comfort, sources said.
    French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also voiced solidarity and condolences.
    "The news and images of the severe flooding in northern Italy are heartbreaking," Trudeau wrote on Twitter.
    "On behalf of the Canadian people, I send my deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones.
    "We are thinking of all those affected and stand ready to provide support if needed". (ANSA).
