(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 24 - Last week's torrential rain and
deadly floods in Emilia Romagna have led to thousands, not
hundreds, of active landslides, Paride Antolini, the president
of the region's geologists' guild, said on Wednesday.
The floods and landslides claimed 14 lives and caused massive
damage to the northeastern region's economy and infrastructure.
"The number of reported landslides certainly does not match
reality," Antolini told Rai television when asked about an
estimate of there being 305 active landslides.
"There are definitely more, the number is in the thousands".
