(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 30 - Premier Giorgia Meloni said that the
government wants to set up a special task force to watch over
the level of Italian people's purchasing power during a meeting
with trade unions on Tuesday, sources said.
Italian household's spending power has decreased significantly
due to the cost-of-living crisis.
"I want to set up a government observatory at the premier's
office on the subject of purchasing power," Meloni said,
according to the sources.
"It will monitor salaries, prices, price policies,
implementation and the effects of measures that we have
introduced and perhaps have not delivered the expected results,
such as the VAT reduction on products for infants.
"This is the most important issue, the one that the others
depend on.
"I'll try to be there in person (at the task force meetings) so
that it is possible to get to the bottom of this problem
together". (ANSA).
