(see related stories) (ANSA) - ROME, JUL 25 - Milan city council technicians have been at work since 4 am to limit the damage caused by a new violent cloudburst and strong winds, Mayor Giuseppe Sala said on Tuesday.
"We have had a sleepless night. Just to give you an idea, the wind in the city exceeded 100 kilometres per hour," said Sala in a video published on his social media.
"Since 4 am, the city council technicians have been at work coordinating activities in order to limit the damage," he added.
"From the outset, the fire brigade, civil protection and police force have intervened in response to hundreds of requests," said Sala.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday Milan's Castello Sforzesco was closed to the public for safety reasons due to damage caused by the extreme weather.
Tiles reportedly fell off the roof of the mediaeval fortification, parts of which were said to be flooded.
Flooding was also reported in parts of the city's fascist-era Palace of Justice. (ANSA).
