(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 21 - A new record altitude for zero temperatures has been reached in the Italian Alps, the iLMeteo.it weather site said Monday.
The new Italian record for the zero temperature was reached last night at the Novara Cameri radiosounding station at 5,328 metres, said iLMeteo.it.
This beat a record just set by Switzerland, which tonight in Payerne recorded thermal zero at 5,298 metres, the highest value since 1954, when they began their measurements.
As for maximum temperatures in the mountains, iLMeteo.it said that 23 degrees C were reached at 2,100 metres and 39 degrees at 900 metres.
The National Research Council said Sunday that all of Italy's Alpine glaciers were currently above zero. (ANSA).
