(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 4 - A 27-year-old woman died last winter
after meningitis was mistaken for a headache by ERs at two Rome
hospitals, La Repubblica newspaper reported Monday.
The woman, Valeria Fioravanti, died on January 10 after the ER
at the Policlinico Hospital said her strong had pains were due
to cephalea caused by a sudden movement while washing her hair
and, seven days later, the emergency room at the San Giovanni
Addolorata Hospital took her meningitis for lombo-sciatica.
The doctors who made the mistaken diagnoses have been placed
under investigation.
Meningitis often proves deadly unless it is spotted quickly.
