(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 13 - Another 29 migrant boats carrying
around 1,290 people arrived in Lampedusa early on Wednesday
after a record 110 vessels with 5,112 people on board landed on
the Italian island on Tuesday.
There were over 6,790 people at the island's hotspot early on
Wednesday.
The hotspot has an official capacity of around 400 people but it
has recently been restructured under the new Italian Red Cross
Management to be able to handle much higher numbers on a
short-term basis.
The prefect's department in the Sicilian city of Agrigento has
arranged for a ferry to pick up around 700 people from Lampedusa
and take them to Porto Empedocle, with another 180 being
transferred by a IOM flight. (ANSA).
