(ANSA) - PERGOLA, SEP 17 - A new painting by Raphael, a
depiction of Mary Magdalene, has been discovered, experts have
said at an international conference in Pergola, a town in the
central Italian province of Pesaro and Urbino.
The artwork, featuring the face of Chiara Fancelli, Perugino's
wife, was painted on a poplar wood panel measuring 46 cm by 34
cm.
It is dated 1504, belongs to a foreign private collection and
has been attributed to the Renaissance master by a pool of
scholars.
The announcement at the conference on 'Raphael Sanzio's Vision
of Perfection' comes ahead of the publication next week of the
study regarding the attribution in the 'Open Science, Art and
Science' journal.
The study is entitled 'Raphael's Magdalene, When the Pupil
Surpasses the Master'. (ANSA).
