(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 19 - France on Tuesday morning deployed a
customs police helicopter to its southern border with Italy,
where anti-terrorism ground vehicles were already positioned as
part of measures to step up border controls in response to the
uptick in sea arrivals to Lampedusa.
The helicopter flew over Pont Saint-Ludovic and Ponte San Luigi
respectively on the French and Italian side of the border that
is a popular crossing point for migrants and refugees transiting
through Italy on their way to countries further north.
Controls have also reportedly been stepped up on rail services
between Ventimiglia and Nice, as well as on trains running
between Ventimiglia and Cuneo and between Breil and Nice.
