Egyptian Museum chief attacked because non-aligned - Schlein

Part of alleged rightwing takeover of key cultural posts

(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 21 - Centre-left opposition Democratic Party (PD) leader Elly Schlein said Thursday the right was demanding the head of Turin's Egyptian Museum, ostensibly over a discount he gave to Muslim visitors a couple of years ago, because he was "non-aligned" with the government's alleged takeover of key cultural positions in Italy.
She cited as examples of the latter the alleged occupation of state broadcaster Rai, pensions agency INPS and work accident insurance agency INAIL, as well as the experimental cinematography centre.
"It is a proprietary conception of the institutions which we cannot accept," said Schlein, the PD's first woman secretary and the chief opponent of rightwing Premier Giorgia Meloni, Italy's first female head of government. (ANSA).
