Role allows 'no levity or carelessness' says premier

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 3 - Premier Giorgia Meloni on Tuesday admitted that she fells the "weight" of the responsibility of her role as she addressed the Festival delle Regioni (Festival of Regions) in Turin.
"In (the premier's office at) Palazzo Chigi, there is a room where there are the portraits of all the premiers (of Italy)," said Meloni, who became Italy's first woman head of government after leading her centre-right coalition to victory in last year's general election "One feels the weight of the responsibility one carries on one's shoulders in leading a nation like Italy.
"One is the heir of an extraordinary history.
"It is very difficult to be equal to it.
"It (the position) does not allow levity, carelessness or ego".
She stressed the need for " loyal cooperation" between central government and regions, saying this was "an indispensable prerequisite for giving concrete answers (to citizens), which is what we all have a responsibility to do "This works if we all go in the same direction, if we can understand the role of our nation in the world, a question to which 'Italy' has not always been able to answer," she said.
