For years unfairly depicted as criminal says ex-Riace mayor

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 11 - Ex Riace mayor and integration hero Mimmo Lucano said after an appeals court slashed his sentence for alleged immigration irregularities from over 13 years to a suspended 18 months that it had been he end of a nightmare that had brought him down.
"It is the end of a nightmare that over the years has brought me down so much, humiliated me, offended me. It is the end of a nightmare that for years, unjustly, made me look like a delinquent in the eyes of the people," he said.
Lucano has been attacked, denigrated, and accused, even politically and not only, therefore, judicially, of destroying the 'Riace model', the extraordinary opportunity created to welcome hundreds of people who were in need and to revive and repopulate the centres of Calabria.
"At this point I hope that even (state broadcaster) RAI will change its mind and air the famous series filmed with (showman and actor) Fiorello in Riace". (ANSA).
